Giving Back

One minute read

Last week I talked about getting little snippets of plants from other people’s gardens.

It’s also important to give back to people. I often have too many veggie seedlings, or plants that I’ve divided. Our bananas are always having pups!

On a normal suburban block there’s only so many plants you can use.

So I give back. Maybe to someone who has given to me, or maybe to someone who has expressed an interest. I often keep things like yoghurt containers as pots: I just spike some holes in the bottom and hey presto, free pots for my free plants!

One friend of mine cut some wisteria for me and gave it to me in a big pot. I had to wait for a while to see if I had killed it or it was just in its dormant phase. After I was able to send a “The wisteria lives!” text to her, and had finally re-potted it, I gave her the pot back, which included some snapdragon seeds that had self-seeded themselves into it.

That’s an easy way of giving back! Thank you, nature!
