Free gift from nature

One minute read

After years of neglecting it, I wanted to revamp our garden on a micro-budget. I could make that amazing goal because nature is amazing.

I asked for cuttings from friends’ yards. I walked around the streets with a pair of kindy scissors in my pocket, looking for anything growable on verges to take a small cutting. I potted all of these up and waited for them to take root.

I bought the cheapest smallest easy grow plants from stores and immediately potted them up so they could stretch. Some became big so quickly I had to divide them.

I collected seed from plants already in my garden and from others’ gardens.

I consulted books and the internet, and I kept going.

Once I accidentally left a tiny bit of succulent in my car boot for three days. Nature is amazing because it’s now growing healthily (in a pot, not in my car boot!).

This process has meant more than just reducing cost. It means I have a little piece of my friends and family, and my memories, in my garden.

And it feels crazy good.
